Why are so many male dancers gay? Not to be stereotypical but I'm a ballerina and throughout my whole dance career, I've met a good chunk of gay male dancers. Is there an explaination for this? |
I'm afraid I'm going to have to give you a stereotypical answer. To be a good dancer, you have to be very aware of how your body moves, where the "component parts" are (i.e. where are your hands and feet relative to the rest of your body, and so on), and things like that. In my experience, most straight guys seem to go out of their way to avoid knowing things like that, as though somehow to move gracefully brings the stigma of being gay. Most gay guys I know seem to accept being graceful without worrying about it. So, I'd say it's a mind-set thing. There may be plenty of straight guys who'd make great dancers, but they never let themselves see that part of their lives.
Yeah, it may be a lame reason, but it's the best I've got. Gay guys just have different hangups than straight guys. |
I'm doing a research on dance and stereotypes, is there a movie that makes fun of gay dancers? I remember that the movie Blade Of Glory or something made the choreographer look extra gay but are there other movies like this? What about dance flick? is there a part where they make fun of the gays?
(my research is on the 'source' of the gay dancer stereotype, id like to prove that this stereotype was made out of nowhere, well thats not exactly it but thats not what my question is about so yeah.) |
Billy Elliot
I saw a critic slate that film because it was so unrealistic and that no father would stop a boy doing ballet because of the gay overtones.
B***t. I mentioned I was going to sign my son up for ballet classes, and my father in law started thumping the table with his fist saying nobody was going to turn his grandson into a flipping fairy. It was a long time ago (about the time period the film was set, miner's strike in the UK) but it still rankles. He was a mild man and I only ever saw him lose his temper twice, and that was one of them
Discussing it with other family many years later, we reckon it was an attitude forged during his army service in WW2.

Why do people assume that all male ballet dancers are gay? I have been dancing for a few years, and not all guys that do ballet are gay. I am, but when I tell people I dance they are like oh you must be gay. I mean I don't care, what people think. This is just an unusual observation that I have picked up.
Please let me know your thoughts
thanks |
It's about 50/50 I'd say. There is a large gay community in the performing arts and theater world. There are also gay garbage men and gay surgeons, so I don't really see what the big deal is.
Dancers get to be around sweaty, flexible, attractive scantily clad women all day.
Football players stare at each other in the shower. |
Why do so many people accuse Tecktonik dancers as gay? Personally, I'm not gay and I think Tecktonik looks like a ton of fun. If you don't like it, then don't watch it or dance it... Like, if you don't like ballet, then don't watch it. I never watch ballet but I never call ballet gay. |
| it just a stereotype mate, just like hairdressers and fashion designers, it's human nature for people to be prejudice it's nothing personal, its just like saying all blonds are dumb, while we all know it's not true its still a popular stereotype |

only the good and really hot ones are.
(just guyding)
seriously, when I go to the ballet, I pretend they all are. |

I agree - most people do assume (and you know what that means) that male ballet dancers are gay, but, like you, i know many that are str8. It is a problem most people have where they sterotype based on their ignorance. Other examples are male hairdressers and women construction workers.
Maybe one day society will wake up |

I guess maybe people stereotype because they see ballet as "Feminine" with the make up, the costumes and the whole beauty behind it.
Its society putting their label on something as they do with many things.
I have never thought that all ballet dancers were gay.....in fact the ones that aren't I am sure are very smart because they get to do all of those sensual moves with all the beautiful female ballerinas....gyrating with each other in tights....SEXY!!! |
How much do Gay Go Go Dancers make? Alright so I'm moving to San Francisco in the summer, im working real good for the summer lol
I wanted to know how much does Go Go dancers make money?
I am a masculine tan fit latino who can dance with the poles lol I want to go to college and make money at nights. |
| I typically bring home 200 to 300 on a good nite and on a slow nite 50 dollars or so! Its fast and easy money. Just make sure you keep your body right and stay in the gym. The old and fat men are always your biggest tippers. I dance at a gay club in Atlanta. |
Why do people think most guy dancers r gay? im 17 and ive been dancing sense i was 6 and i really hate when people think im gay just because i love to dance i have nothing wrong with people who r but im not and it makes me mad.... so i would just like to know why people think that? |
| Most girls like guys who know how to dance. Guys don't like it when other guys dance cause they some how think it's gay.. I don't understand. I went to a concert and these guys were spinning like ballerinas and every girl in the crowd was cheering. Don't stop doing what you love or think what other people think of you.. No matter how talented you are not everyone is going to like you |
Are there any gay bars with gogo dancers in DC? I'm new in town and I'd like to know if there are bars in dc with nude male dancers. I'd also like to know their location since I'm fairly new here. Thanks! |
You will not find any in DC.
For one.. you cannot be nude in DC. It's the law.
Second...there was a new zoning law that closed down one of the only places for Male dancers in one of DC's gay neighborhoods. Some say this was done on purpose by anti-gay politicians...but some say it was just a coincidence.
Therefore, no more male dancers exist in DC. You will have to drive to Baltimore, Maryland. |
