Breast Pumping? I was just wondering if you could only breast feed you baby through pumping and pumping only. My baby has problems getting the milk out as fast as she wants it. So I get bruised and she gets upset. I've waited the whole six weeks thing and nothing has gotten better...if anything it's gotten worst. Just wondering. |
| I did it... I only pumped and gave my daughter breast milk through bottle. It worked well because I knew how much she was drinking and all...the only downer is that pumping is time consuming... you're supposed to pump everytime your baby eats (so like every three to four hours) and it takes a little longer unless you have a double electric pump. (expensive) You really really really have to pump often though if you're not breastfeeding at all-otherwise you will lose your milk supply and it disappears quickly. It will help you both enjoy feeding time much more. good luck! |
Breast pumping? My nine day old son has me so raw that I am bleeding from trying to breastfeed. He is going for weight checks every two days because his weight is low. I started supplementing an ounce of formula with an ounce of my breast milk. However, I am pumping every three hours and never getting more than an ounce for both breasts. I know low milk supply is very rare but shouldn't I have more by now? |
I am a pumper.. because my son wasn't latching on.
I agree with what others have said. The baby will draw out the most milk... vs.. the pump.
You need to power pump (if that's what you choose to do) You should pump every 2 hours.. and for at least 15 minutes. If you pump both boobs at the same time, it will help stimulate the milk production. You need to do that for the next 3 days or so, and that should boost your supply. You can also take fenugreek which you can get at GNC. Altho i would ask your sons doctor about that before you take it.
Make sure you get tons of rest, drink alot of fluids.. and eat healthy. Do keep taking your prenatal vitamins.
I've been pumping for 9 months now.. and every time i pump, i get about 6-7 ounces.
Hang in there, and good for you for giving your son the best start in life! |
When do I need to start breast pumping? I am just going to use a pump, because i am only going to use breast milk for the first 3 months maybe 4.
1. When do I need to start pumping?
2.How often do I need to pump?
3. Do I need to bring the pump to the hospital when I deliver or do I pump a day before I go to the hospital? |
| Actually you can start pumping now and get the colostrum pumped out and saved for when the baby is born and then your milk will come in earlier then when they baby is born and you will already have milk stored up for when the baby comes. I pumped early with my 2nd daughter and it worked out great. I also heard of a women who started pumping on herself and she wasn't even pregnant but she was waiting for her adopted baby to be born and after a while of pumping her body started slowly producing breastmilk. Also pump as often as you would feed your baby, about every 1 and a half hour to 2 hrs. And sometimes the hospitals don't have breastpumps, so I would bring your own just incase, it depends on the size of the hospital you are going to deliver at. |
What is the most important factor to consider when breast pumping to continue haveing a good supply of milk? My wife uses a breast pump to supply our baby girl with milk, Sometimes she will pump every 4 hrs sometimes 5hrs sometimes 6 hrs etc... she has not been consistant between pumping and her milk supply has drastically diminished. can her inconsistancy be a main factor? |
1) Pump for a few minutes after the last drop to tell your body to make more milk.
2) Hand express after you are done pumping and you may be surprised to find out how much the pump didn't get out!
3) Pump as often as the baby eats.
Always remember, it's a supply and demand concept. If you don't demand it of your body, your body won't supply it. |
How much milk do you express when breast pumping? I was wondering what the average was for breast pumping. I'm pumping maybe 1oz each breast per session and thats on a good day. IHow much do you express? I want to know if its possible to express more. I need to pump way more. I have a Medela I know its a great pump so what else can I do to get more milk?
Thanks |
| it all depends. in the beginning, it was about what you are getting. now my baby is 3 months and sometimes i can get 4 ozs from one side, sometimes only one oz. it depends on how long its been since i last fed her |
How much milk should I be producing in the first week after guybirth while breast pumping? I delivered a premature baby a week ago that is being tube fed. So I am solely just breast pumping. I am pumping about 8 times a day and it doesn't seem like I'm getting much. At this point I'm pumping about a half of an ounce at each pumping. When will this pick up? I already know about drinking a lot of fluids, and rest, etc. I just want to know if this is a normal amount to be producing at this point. |
| Don't worry, you are doing fine. I talk out of experience. My baby girl was born over one month early. She was 3 pounds 15 ounces. I also started only to pump. In the beginning I could only pump a little bit, than it became a half of an ounce. I did the same thing, I pumped 8 times and ofter a while I pumped one ounce and more. The only thing keep it up, I know I will be hard but keep it up. This is right now one of the things you can do for your little one. Because my little girl digested my milk better than the formula, she gain faster weight after I got enough milk for her. (half to one ounce per feeding) So they could take out the feeding tube ofter only 1 week and she took the bottle very good. I tried to breast feed her but it tired her very fast out and so I gave her the breast milk in an bottle. Now my little girl is almost 4 months and 12 pounds. I still give her the bottle with breast milk, she still has problems to eat enough when I breastfeed her. Now I pump from 5 to 9 ounces at once. (Depends on the time, in the morning the most and in the afternoon the least.)So you see it will come in and it has nothing to do if you breastfeed or pump. The only thing keep it up and pump. Good luck for your little one, he will grow with the good nutrition you can give him, your milk. |
How long should it take me to get the "flow" of electric breast pumping? I hardly get 2 ounces & I pump for at least 30 minutes. I know I have the milk because my baby is satisfied when nursing & makes lots of dirty diapers. Any tips on breast pumping? After 3 attempts I've managed only about 3 & 1/2 oz! I've got the Advent double electric pump that you can set the suction on. Please help. |
| How old is your baby? My two month old eats about 2-4 oz each feeding and I only pump three ounces maximum. Your baby is much better at emptying your breasts than the pump so you shouldn't expect to get huge amounts when you pump; it's actually not normal to pump more than maybe three to four ounces. You definitely need to relax though, getting frustrated and tense makes things even more diffucult to get out. You could also try nursing on one side while you pump the other or stimulating your own letdown before pumping. |
When using a breast pump, how long does pumping generally take? I am debating whether to go with a single pump or a double pump. How much time does pumping each breast take generally? If I get a double pump, am I able to only pump one side sometimes, or do I always have to do both sides? |
| go double becuase you let down at the same time on both breast. you can pump one side at a time or both with the double. also you should pump for at least 10-15 minutes. what pumping is: your making your breast think your baby is eating thus you can freeze it or you can give it to baby. best of luck |
How do I wean myself from breast pumping? I currently use my breast pump three times a day for 16 minutes each time. I do not breastfeed my baby at all. I want to switch to formula 100% of the time and my baby is now getting about 50% formula. I want to stop breast pumping completely and only use formula to feed my baby. How long will this take and how often should I pump and for how often in order to wean myself? I don't want to become engorged or have blocked ducts. Thanks so much!! |
| i dont think u can wean ur self slowly. i was breast pumping myself and when i reduced it to change my baby to formula it just got harder to get milk out as they were starting to dry out then getting confused as i was only doing it once at day, it just got sore and harder to get the milk out so i just stopped all together baby got used to it after a week or two n i ended up rock hard n sore for ages but it got better in time. |
What are all the necessary breast pumping? I know there is alot of useless stuff out there that not worth the time.
